Meet Our Team

Director

Angele Ibanda Pembele holds a Ph.D in Plant Breeding and Biotechnology from Makerere University;

Her Ph.D. studies were sponsored by the Inter-University Cooperation to Train Scientists for African Agriculture (CSAA), an Intra–ACP mobility project, and the next generation of scientists" of Carnegie Cooperation of New York through the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM).

The ISDDD works to develop sustainable agriculture and natural resources management, gender equality, new technologies, social peace, and any other area related to the major societal issues in the Republic of Congo and globally for food security and human well being

ISSDD is committed to its mission and goals and works tirelessly to achieve them. It is accountable to its donors, partners, and beneficiaries for the use of its resources, as well as for its results and impact. It is transparent about its operations, finances, and decision-making processes to build stakeholder trust. ISSDD fosters collaboration with other organizations, stakeholders, and communities to maximize its impact and works with diversity, equity, and the environment in all its activities.

Areas of Activities

Public policy

<p>Our goal is to forge and promote policy recommendations that are based on evidence and address social, economic, and environmental challenges. We achieve this through initiatives such as conducting policy research, advocating with policymakers, hosting policy forums, and publishing policy briefs. Our ultimate objective is to influence policy at local, national, and international levels to promote sustainable development.</p>

Development

<p>We Initiate programs that support revenue-generating activities such as agriculture and small businesses, improve infrastructure, promote social entrepreneurship and vocational training, while ensuring equity and inclusiveness. This drives sustainable economic development and improves living standards.</p>

Governance and gender

<p>We aim to influence and enhance governance structures and promote gender equality through research, advocacy, and community engagement. Our initiatives include gender mainstreaming in governance, leadership training for women, and research on the barriers to gender equality. Ultimatily, our goal is to achieve equitable governance and empower women and minority groups.</p>

Environment

<p>Our focus is on promoting eco-friendly practices, preserving biodiversity, and limiting the impact of climate change while building resilience within local communities. Our initiatives include environmental conservation projects, climate resilience workshops, and partnerships with environmental NGOs. Our ultimate goal is to foster environmental stewardship and sustainable living.&nbsp;</p> <p>Agroecology and biodiversity: our focus is to promote the adoption of agro-ecological practices that enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and increase sustainably crop productivity. Implement pilot projects to demonstrate effective agro-ecological practices. Host training workshops for farmers on sustainable land management. Research biodiversity in agricultural systems and its benefits. Foster ecosystems that support sustainable agricultural landscapes and increase resilience to environmental pressures.</p>

Sustainable agriculture and food security

<p>Our focus is on advancing sustainable agricultural practices that increase productivity while conserving resources. This is possible by promoting organic farming, introducing sustainable water management techniques, and supporting agroforestry to ensure food security and improve nutritional outcomes while maintaining the health of the land.</p> <p>We focus on the development and dissemination of farming practices that reduce agriculture&#39;s environmental footprint and increase its resilience to climate change. This is done by developing and promoting weather-resistant crop varieties through genetic research. Introduce water-saving irrigation techniques suitable for drought-prone areas. Offer courses and field training on climate-smart techniques to equip farmers with the tools and knowledge to adapt to climate variability and mitigate agriculture&#39;s impact on the environment</p>

Natural resources

<p>We strive to advocate for responsible management of natural resources, ensuring their sustainability and availability for future generations. Our initiatives include sustainable mining practices, community-managed forests, and water conservation programs. Our impact goal is to optimize the use of natural resources while minimizing environmental degradation. Indigenous Knowledge and Practices: Document, preserve, and integrate indigenous agricultural knowledge and practices that have sustained communities for generations. Research and record local farming techniques and crop varieties. Inventory and preserve valuable wild plant species with the aim of innovatively applying them in areas such as human nutrition, healthcare and agriculture. Validate indigenous knowledge through scientific methods and promote its broader application. Organize symposiums to facilitate knowledge exchange between traditional and scientific communities to bridge the gap between traditional practices and modern agriculture to enrich both spheres and promote sustainable growth.</p>

New technologies

<p>Leverage cutting-edge technologies to enhance development outcomes across various sectors. We Develop ICT tools for education, promote digital literacy, and innovate in renewable energy technologies.</p> <p>Digital Agriculture Forum: Create a dynamic platform for innovation, discussion, and development of digital solutions that address contemporary challenges in agriculture. This forum will serve as a nexus for experts, practitioners, and technologists to push the boundaries of what&#39;s possible in agriculture through technology.</p> <p>Key Services:</p> <p>Collaborative Platform: We develop an online hub for sharing ideas, strategies, and advancements in agricultural technology, including AI-driven predictive analytics, IoT for farm management, and remote sensing for precision agriculture.</p> <p>Technology Showcases and Demos: We regularly feature new technologies through webinars, live demonstrations, and pilot projects that allow farmers to see the practical benefits of digital tools in action.Innovation Labs: Establish partnerships with tech companies and academic institutions to foster the creation of next-generation agricultural tools that are accessible and effective for farmers in diverse regions. Our goal is to accelerate the adoption of advanced digital technologies in agriculture, leading to increased farm productivity, reduced environmental impact, and enhanced data-driven decision-making.</p>

Social peace

<p>Foster social cohesion and peace through dialogue, conflict resolution, and community-building initiatives. Market Linkage Programs: We facilitate direct connections between producers and buyers, including local markets, supermarkets, and international trade platforms, aiming to secure fair prices and sustainable partnerships.</p> <p>Agribusiness Training: We deliver comprehensive training modules on business management, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skills tailored specifically for agricultural contexts.</p> <p>Food Value Chain Optimization: Strengthen the entire food value chain from production to consumption to ensure food safety, quality, and profitability. Support infrastructural improvements for storage and transportation to reduce post-harvest losses. Facilitate better market access for smallholder farmers. Encourage the adoption of international food safety standards among local producers to Improve economic outcomes for farmers and ensure consumers have access to high-quality food products.</p> <p>Consult on optimizing every segment of the agricultural value chain, from production and processing to distribution and sales, to enhance efficiency and profitability.
